Do you or your partner have anxiety about learning to dance?

The most common concern that students have when beginning to dance is nerves or anxiety. I would say more than half of my students started off this way. Take comfort in knowing that you are not alone! Being a little nervous before your first dance lesson is completely normal. I even still get nervous once in a while-I think this is hard wired into us on some level. By its very nature, doing something creative and trying something new requires us to put ourselves out there and challenges us in new ways. Because of this, I truly believe that dance has the power to teach many things in addition to learning the steps.

If you have the motivation to start to learn to dance, you can learn. If you bring the desire, I will help you achieve your goals. If you want to learn to dance and are nervous about it, facing those fears is not only important, but rewarding. Not only will you learn to dance, but by facing your fears you will become more confident and comfortable with your authentic self. You will grow stronger in ways you wouldn’t expect. For example, I have a student who used to be terrified of public speaking and dreaded doing presentations at work. Now, she looks forward to being able to speak in front of groups and share her ideas. Also, by stepping out of your comfort zone and dancing even though you are nervous can lead to you being more willing to try new things. The more we learn to lean into discomfort for the things we want to do, the more confidence we develop in our own abilities and more capable we become at facing our fears. The hardest part is getting the courage to come in for the first lesson. Once you are here, you will see that dancing is less intimidating than you expected.

Please let me know what your concerns are when you contact me or come in for your first lesson. Being open with me will allow me to help guide you in the best way that I can. Your concerns are never a burden to me. One of the most rewarding parts of my work is to see this transformation in my students. I love meeting new students and guiding them as they embark on this new experience. Dancing has given me an amazing life and has impacted me in more ways than I would have ever imagined. I am so grateful that I get to share this joy and experience with others. I can’t wait to meet you and get you started dancing!
